Environmental Commitment

Our Environmental Impact

As climbers, we believe we should protect the places we love. That's why we commit 2% of all revenue to climbing access and environmental conservation organizations.

Our Commitment

2%

of all revenue donated monthly

This covers all subscriptions - web, iOS, and Android. No exceptions, no fine print.

On AI footprint

Our AI Footprint

We're an AI-powered app - and AI has real environmental costs. Every chat message and analysis uses compute power and energy.

Here's how we minimize it:

  • Prompt caching - We cache repeated context so the AI doesn't reprocess the same information, cutting compute usage significantly.
  • Smart context retrieval - Our system pulls only relevant data for each conversation, minimizing unnecessary processing.
  • Ongoing optimization - We continuously refine our AI architecture to do more with less.
  • Efficient AI models - We use Claude Haiku for data processing tasks (like logbook imports), reserving more powerful models only when they're truly needed.
  • Privacy-conscious AI provider - We use Anthropic's Claude models because they automatically delete all data after 30 days and never use your data for training, unlike many other AI providers.

Beyond optimization, we donate 2% of revenue to organizations protecting climbing access and the outdoor spaces we love.

Built by one person

Luz is built by one person. There are no investors, so nobody is waiting for a return on you.

2% of everything goes to climbing access and conservation, every month, as it has from the start. The rest pays for the servers, the AI, and the time to keep building this. One day I'd like it to pay for my full attention.

What I want it to fund next: climbing initiatives worth backing, free accounts for climbers and national teams who can't pay, and an ambassador program that actually pays the people in it. None of that exists yet.
